Fleeing since January 8: affiliate of the Mazzei clan arrested

He was tracked down a few days ago in Fiumefreddo, where he had decided to set up his headquarters to spend a more or less peaceful fugitive life. Unfortunately for him - a fifty-six-year-old man from Catania whose complete identity the State Police has chosen not to disclose, at least for the moment - the police officers of the Etna Mobile Squad, assisted by colleagues from the Central Operational Service, the same ones who handled the technological aspects of the searches, were able to gradually close the distance to the fugitive. They blocked and arrested him on March 11.

The man, identified as a member of the Mazzei clan from Catania, sentenced to 13 years and 10 months in prison for mafia association as well as other crimes, had been untraceable since January 8, the date on which the conviction was pronounced, leading to the issuance of an execution order by the Prosecutor General at the Court of Appeal of Catania. This was the same court from which he had managed to evade. 

Police officers, a few days ago, after identifying him and confirming that he was their target, surrounded the apartment where the fugitive was hiding and broke in. The man, who did not resist during the raid, was found in possession of a forged driver's license and several credit cards, which are under investigation.

At the end of the standard procedures, the arrested individual was taken and incarcerated in Catania Bicocca prison, where members of the Santo Mazzei 'u carcagnusu clan are usually held. Investigative sources add that the position of the property owner where the convict was found is currently being examined by the District Prosecutor's Office of Catania.
