Today, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Minister Alessandro Giuli will announce which city will be proclaimed the Italian Capital of Culture 2028. Among the candidates is Catania with the project “Catania continua,” outlined in the dossier presented by Mayor Enrico Trantino. Alongside the capital of Etna, the finalists include Ancona, Colle di Val d’Elsa, Forlì, Gravina in Puglia, Massa, Mirabella Eclano, Sarzana (La Spezia), and Tarquinia.

The proclamation ceremony will begin at 11:00 AM in the Spadolini Hall on Via del Collegio Romano, in the presence of local administrations and members of the selection jury. The winning city will be awarded a contribution of one million euros for the implementation of the cultural program described in its candidacy dossier. Follow the live broadcast of the event.
