The "white t-shirt people" are getting ready for the "Corri Catania", the traditional and highly anticipated run-walk along the streets of the Etnean capital scheduled for Sunday, May 10. An event that brings together thousands of participants in the name of sport, wellness, and social commitment that always delivers plenty of emotions and fun. Corri Catania is not just a run but a celebration that has grown bigger year after year!
Every year, on the occasion of Corri Catania, a solidarity project is promoted to be realized in the territory, and in 2026 the project is "Protecting Childhood" for the establishment – within the Garibaldi Nesima Hospital – of the T.I.M.MI Clinic, a space for care, listening, and protection to combat all forms of violence against minors.
And in view of the run-walk on Sunday, May 10, timely suggestions arrive for all those who wish to participate in the event and prepare adequately to face the approximately 5 kilometers of walking at a free pace without fear. There are also those who will want to run, but the commitment remains the same, and everyone, absolutely everyone, will be able to complete the Corri Catania.
You can start without needing to prepare, as the commitment is non-competitive, there is nothing agonistic, no records to break, but only the goal for young and less young people to spend a day in full joy. For all those who, instead, want to tackle the "Corri Catania" with a little preparation and perhaps outpace a classmate, dad, boyfriend, or friend, it will take little, as explained by Prof. Filippo Di Mulo, from Catania, responsible for the blue speed team who won the Olympic gold in the 100 and with the 4 x 100 relay at the Tokyo 2021 Olympic Games.

“At the Corri Catania - explains Prof. Filippo Di Mulo, who is leaving today for Torun in Poland where the Indoor World Championships are scheduled to take place starting Friday, and one of his students, Filippo Randazzo, will run the 60 meters - it is possible to complete the 5 kilometers at a free pace, walking or, for those who are more prepared, running, and here are some tips for those who want to tackle the event with a little preparation. There are many training plans that can be recommended, and we propose a tried-and-true one aimed at those who, in good health and preferably after having undergone a medical fitness examination, wish to start running without having ever done so before, whether they are former athletes from other sports or total sedentary individuals.”

“The training program - continues Prof. Filippo Di Mulo - is inspired by a system that aims to alternate the first times one trains, running with brisk walking and involves a gradual increase in running time, starting from a modest base of 5', but without interruptions and is based on a fundamental initial principle: changes in pace alternating running and walking. The complete training cycle, at the end of which one is able to run easily and efficiently for 30' of continuous running, is divided into two parts: from 0' to 20', from 20' to 30'. A schedule with which one can reach running 30'. The goal will be to gradually acclimate one's body to aerobic adaptation (breath) and then, muscular.”
