No tax break: the default blocks the cancellation of tax bills

The Municipality of Canicattì cannot join the quinquennial tax amnesty for the facilitated settlement of taxes owed to the Entity by citizens. It is not possible because any potential adherence would disrupt what is the permanently balanced budget, recently approved by the City Council, and because a large part of the passive mass that the Entity should collect has already been handled by the Extraordinary Liquidation Commission that deals with the financial distress after the default was declared in 2023.

This information emerged during the last session of the City Council when the assembly was to discuss the proposal put forward by the council group of Brothers of Italy and shared by the municipal administration, which essentially aimed to approve a regulation that would allow the entity to join the tax benefits for taxpayers who have overdue debts with the entity. This involves the payment of local taxes such as the Tari, the Imu, and fines imposed by the Local Police.
