Ragusa, decoration in the historic center: the regeneration action initiated by the local police continues
The restoration activity has involved a total of 220 sites
One of the regenerated sites
In line with the regeneration, cleaning, and care program for the historic center initiated by the Municipality of Ragusa, the administration announces that the interventions carried out by the Urban Decor Operational Unit of the Local Police Command have produced tangible results.
A total of 220 sites have been restored.
The operations have particularly involved:
- cleaning of shop windows and the removal of signs belonging to businesses that have ceased operations;
- elimination of structures related to properties that housed no longer operational businesses;
- removal of posters and flyers affixed without authorization or placed on the windows of vacant shops, a task carried out by workers from the public utility project "Guardians of Beauty" under the coordination of the Local Police.
The improvement of the urban appearance has also been made possible thanks to the active contribution of residents and business operators: the collaboration of the community and the shared sense of responsibility have been decisive in restoring the historic center to its rightful role as a cultural, social, and economic heritage.
The Local Police Command announces that monitoring and maintenance will continue regularly to consolidate the results achieved.
It is also reminded that, in case of non-compliance with the removal order issued by the competent offices, non-compliant parties will be fined between 4,833 and 19,332 euros, pursuant to art. 23, paragraph 13-bis, of the Highway Code.
The related violation report will be notified at the end of the activity report.
"This achievement is the concrete result of a path initiated in 2024, born from the public notice inviting private individuals to take care of their own areas of responsibility – states the councilor for Local Police, Giovanni Gurrieri -. The goal was, and still is, to prevent abandoned shop windows and signs from remaining in a state of neglect, causing serious damage to the image and decor of our city. Thanks to the perfect synergy between the Historic Center department and the Local Police department, this commitment will continue with determination until definitive results are achieved. I sincerely wish to thank the citizens for embracing the spirit of the initiative and for the valuable collaboration demonstrated."
At the same time, the Department of the Historic Center, in close synergy with the Local Police, is developing a new Regulation for urban decor and the protection of sites of interest.
The initiative aims to establish clear guidelines to restore order and aesthetic quality to the heart of the city. The text will focus particularly on:
- restoration of facades, with specific instructions for recovering spaces after the removal of old signs;
- decorum of facades, through quality standards for the maintenance of facades, involving both public and private construction in a shared commitment to the city's prestige.
Final objective: enhance the architectural heritage and keep public spaces always welcoming and well-maintained.
