On March 10, in the council chamber of the Municipality of Comiso, a discussion took place between the students of the Scientific High School “Ettore Majorana” of Caltagirone, engaged in the project “Citizens are made”, and a delegation from the Secondary Education Institute “Giosuè Carducci” of Comiso, as reported by the councilor Giusi Cubisino.

“It was a comparison between two cities that are different in many aspects, where young people have the same needs: spaces for gathering and socializing to avoid isolation. We had the pleasure of listening to the requests and projects of committed, attentive, and serious young people who did not hold back their proposals that they have been working on for some time,” emphasized the councilor.

Among the initiatives presented, the students of the Artistic High School “Carducci” presented a redevelopment plan, developed following a technical study, to equip an area accessible to both young people and adults without limiting the user base. The intervention concerns the “fontanelle” square, in the peripheral area of Comiso towards Via Piave.

The students of the “Majorana” of Caltagirone, on the other hand, identified a structure within the municipal park to be designated as a community center for diverse activities, also indicating the PNRR measures potentially usable for its establishment.

“In short, we became aware of a very important aspect of our communities, namely paying close attention to young people who want to fully experience their city, who want to be active and integrated through spaces and activities that facilitate socialization, integration, and individual growth,” concluded Cubisino.

In the same vein, Mayor Maria Rita Schembari stated: “As a teacher, I am truly proud to see young people who are interested in the ‘res publica’, and want to be part of it in an active, participatory way. The kids often give us life lessons, and we have a duty to listen to them and acknowledge the requests they present to us. During the meeting, the students expressed a great truth, which is that politics can only meet their needs if they themselves make their voices heard, proposing constructively, as in this specific case, being at the forefront to take on part of the responsibility for improving the cities in which they live. We will do our part.”

Present at the meeting were the vice president of the “Majorana” High School, Prof. Farinato, the head teacher of the “Carducci” Institute, Prof.ssa Lauretta, Prof. Modica, lawyer Karis Pace, guardian of children's and adolescents' rights, and the head of the Area II Public Education of the Municipality of Comiso, Dr. Fabio Melilli.
