Free screening day, the guarantor Apprendi: "Inmates excluded from Asp services"

But unfortunately, says the detainee guarantor of the Municipality of Palermo Pino Apprendi, that women deprived of liberty, during the screening week dedicated specifically to women, did not have the opportunity to access the free service.

"I read about the success of every screening day that Asp organizes in the city or in the Province. They serve to provide proper prevention. But even in matters concerning health, people who are serving a sentence or are awaiting judgment are excluded from these initiatives. In February 2025, I wrote to Asp of Palermo to initiate, even on an experimental basis, an investigation for the 100 incarcerated women at Pagliarelli, both for breast cancer and for uterine cancer; well, to date there has been no sign that gives hope. I hope that President Schifani and Councillor Faraoni take a stand and give directions regarding this, to then proceed with screening for all Sicilian detainees, present in the 23 facilities."
