Mud, effort and glory in Piazza del Campo: the triumph of the cyclists from Canicattini in Siena
Slippery walls and rain: the extreme challenge of Mountain Biking in the Heart of the Strade Bianche
Four athletes from Asd Mountain bike nel Cuore di Canicattì participated in the Gran Fondo Strade Bianche that took place yesterday in Siena. They are: Salvatore Bongiorno, Salvatore La Valle, and the brothers Carmelo and Davide Ferranti.
A race that saw about 9000 athletes at the starting line from all over Italy and from various parts of Europe and the World. The rain that fell in the early hours of the morning radically changed the face of the race.
The stretches of gravel turned into treacherous and heavy paths. The prohibitive slopes of sectors like Le Tolfe and the legendary climb of via Santa Caterina became true slippery walls, where athletic endurance had to contend with the extreme precariousness of balance.
Bongiorno, La Valle, and the Ferranti brothers approached the race with an admirable resilience. Despite the difficulties, the four athletes from Canicattì managed to manage their energies, staying focused and demonstrating a character worthy of admiration.
The arrival in the heart of Siena, passing under the arch of the Fortezza Medicea and the triumphant entrance into a crowded Piazza del Campo despite the bad weather, rewarded every single pedal stroke.
For Salvatore Bongiorno, Salvatore La Valle, Carmelo, and Davide Ferranti, this participation represents much more than a time result: it is a personal and collective victory. Their success is a source of great pride for the entire sports community of Canicattì, demonstrating how team and team spirit can make a difference even in the toughest international competitions.
