Athletics: at the indoor World Championships, Italy finishes with Mattia Furlani winning silver in the long jump.

The blue team only surrendered to the Portuguese Bardè (8.46). With the three golds from Diaz, Battocletti, and Dosso, and the silver from Iapichino, Italy is in third place in the medal table behind Great Britain and the United States.

The Indoor World Championships in Torun will go down in the history of Italian athletics. The Italian team in Poland finished with a final tally of five podiums and third place in the medal table behind Great Britain and the United States.

Today, on the closing day, after the three extraordinary gold medals won by Andy Díaz (triple jump), Nadia Battocletti (3000 meters), and Zaynab Dosso (60 meters), two precious medals came from the long jump with Mattia Furlani and Larissa Iapichino taking silver.

In the men's competition, Mattia Furlani, after a remarkable 2025, won silver, matching his personal best of 8.39 on his fifth attempt, achieved this year after being relegated to 3rd place after the first four jumps. Mattia Furlani only succumbed to the formidable Portuguese athlete Gerson Baldè, who landed at 8.46 on his last attempt, and bronze went to Bulgarian Bozhidar Saraboyukov (8.31).

In the morning, Larissa Iapichino secured silver in the long jump final with a distance of 6.87, finishing behind Portuguese athlete Agate De Sousa with 6.92, and in the last event of the evening, Mattia Furlani earned bronze in the men's event with a distance of 8.25. This marks the seventh consecutive medal for Mattia Furlani, and not only a record of golds (3), but also a record of medals for Italy in 21 editions of the indoor World Championships: 5 podiums.

Larissa Iapichino wins silver in the long jump

In the other finals today, Italian athlete Federico Riva tried his best in the 1500 meters, always fighting for the podium and ultimately finishing in 7th place with a time of 3'40"98, in a race that saw Spanish athlete Mariano García win his second world title, also taking gold in 2022, with a time of 3'39"63, ahead of Portuguese Isaac Nader, the outdoor world champion, at 3'40"06, and Australian Adam Spencer, at 3'40"26.

In the women's final, ninth place for Ludovica Cavalli in 4'10"10 and gold for the British Georgia Hunter Bell, in 3'58"53 ahead of the Australian Jessica Hull, 3'59"45 and the American Nikki Hiltz, 3'59"68.

In the pentathlon, still among the best in the world, the Italian Sveva Gerevini: finishes seventh in the pentathlon with 4522 points, 37 points shy of her Italian record of 2024 in Glasgow where she had placed fourth. In the concluding 800 meters, she is fourth in 2:11.69 and gains another position in the standings, while in the long jump she landed at 6.15, temporarily becoming eighth. Gold medal for the Dutch Sofie Dokter (4888) who maintains the lead despite the recovery of the American Anna Hall (4860), winner of the 800 meters in 2:06.32. Bronze for the Irish Kate O’Connor (4839).
