Bezzecchi triumphs and Aprilia makes it two in a row with Martin: Italy reigns in motorcycles
The Italian takes the lead in the world championship, Di Giannantonio in third; Holgado triumphs in Moto2 and Aspar scores a double in Moto3.
Italy is great also in MotoGp thanks to Aprilia and Marco Bezzecchi on a sports Sunday increasingly painted in blue. After triumphs in skiing and athletics, comes the double win for the Noale-based team in the Brazilian Grand Prix, where the rider from Rimini dominated from start to finish, followed by teammate Jorge Martin. On the podium, another Italian, the Roman Fabio Di Giannantonio on Ducati VR46, managed to overtake world champion Marc Marquez on the official Ducati in the final corners.
“It will be a tough race, the feelings are good. Let's try to do well and have fun,” Bezzecchi had said before the start of the last act of the MotoGP weekend in Brazil: words immediately put into practice after the green light, which saw the Rimini rider from Aprilia take the lead, overtaking both the pole-sitting Ducati VR46 of Di Giannantonio and the official Red of Marc Marquez.
All this in a reduced race of 8 laps (23 instead of 31 due to 'track degradation') where Bezzecchi then led the race with a wide margin until the checkered flag, finishing ahead of his teammate Martin, who gradually got rid of both Marc Marquez and Di Giannantonio, securing second place and achieving a one-two for Aprilia that now positions itself to take the crown from Ducati as the best bike in the championship.
Only just off the podium is Marc Marquez, followed by Ogura, Alex Marquez, and Acosta, while Pecco Bagnaia slips back 13 laps from the end. Thus, Bezzecchi becomes the new leader of the World Championship with +11 points over Martin and +14 over Acosta. “Not bad - Bezzecchi's first words after the triumph with Aprilia - I am very, very happy; it was a difficult weekend, we started off on the wrong foot on Friday, but the guys in the box did a great job and I pushed to the max. So we made the bike fantastic and the race was fantastic too, I dedicate this race to Robi, a dear friend of mine who has passed away.”
Completing the celebration for Aprilia in Brazil was former world champion Jorge Martin, who congratulated his teammate: “Marco was extraordinary, I managed well and tried to win it, but it wasn't possible, I am very happy we are a great team and I believe we will achieve great results this year.”
In the Moto 2, under the watchful eye of former Ferrari Felipe Massa, who is waving the checkered flag, Daniel Holgado celebrates, bringing joy to the Aspar team, already successful in the lower class, Moto3. Holgado also secures the world championship lead. Second place goes to Daniel Munoz (Italtrans), who was only tamed in the final meters. Spain completes the podium thanks to Manuel Gonzalez (Intact GP), who outsmarted Alex Escrig. Tony Arbolino, the best among the Italians, finishes seventh after a great race, preceded by David Alonso and Izan Guevara.
In Moto 3, Aspar achieves a one-two finish, with Quiles ahead of teammate Marco Morelli (new leader of the World Championship). The best Italian is Guido Pini, finishing fifth at the line. MotoGP now heads to Austin in the United States for the sprint race and GP from March 27 to 29.
