Sinner starts strong in Miami: Džumhur defeated in two sets
Quick and convincing success for the world number one: now a showdown between Moutet and Machac for the next opponent.
Jannik Sinner starts off on the right foot at the Miami Masters 1000 and immediately secures his place in the third round. The Italian tennis player defeated the Bosnian Damir Džumhur in his debut with a clear 6-3, 6-3 in just over an hour of play, confirming his excellent form.
The number one in the world tennis rankings – who entered the draw directly in the second round thanks to the bye reserved for seeded players – controlled the match from the very beginning, breaking his opponent's serve right away and always maintaining control of the rallies. A solid performance, without any particular flaws, allowed the Italian to close both sets with the same score and without conceding any real opportunities.
For Sinner, this is a convincing debut in a tournament he knows well: the Miami Masters 1000, held at the Hard Rock Stadium, is indeed one of the most important events of the season on American hard courts.
In the next round, the Italian will face the winner of the match between the French Corentin Moutet and the Czech Tomas Machac, in a match that could provide more precise indications about his path in the tournament.
At the end of the match, Sinner emphasized the importance of a decisive start: "Starting with a break at the beginning helps you to be aggressive. I made some mistakes, but overall I am happy." The number one in the rankings also highlighted the difficulties related to adapting to the playing conditions after Indian Wells: "I didn't have much time to get used to it. The first matches are never easy, I will try to do better in the next round."
A victory that confirms the continuity of the Italian in Masters 1000 tournaments and boosts his ambitions in Florida, where he aims to go all the way.
