Skiing: the blue Laura Pirovano triumphs, she is the winner of the World Cup in downhill skiing.

The heir of Goggia and Brignone shares with the microphones of DMTC, which has been following her since 2021: "I put on my skis and I'm free to be who I am." Today in Norway, Dominik Paris also scored his 20th career victory against the 25 of the legendary Austrian Franz Klammer.

At the Winter Olympic Games in Milan Cortina, her first Olympic appearance, she placed 6th in the downhill, 5th in the super-G, and third in her run of the team combined (her assigned teammate did not finish the slalom), but for Laura Pirovano, a 28-year-old from Trentino, the 2026 season is one to remember. The Italian ski champion has indeed won the 2026 World Cup in downhill, dominating the field and delivering a great achievement for Italian skiing.

Now the extraordinary skier from Trentino has the leader bib of the specialty standings in her trophy case until the start of the next season. Laura Pirovano won ahead of the German Emma Aicher and the Olympic champion Breezy Johnson, succeeding Federica Brignone, the trophy holder, and becoming the fourth Italian to win the trophy after Isolde Kostner (twice, 2001 and 2002), Sofia Goggia (four times, 2018, 2021, 2022, and 2023), and indeed Brignone last year. And today was a magical day for Italian skiing with an incredible double victory in downhill in the last two races of the season at the Finals in Lillehammer, on the Olympia slope of nearby Kvitfjell.

The Italian Dominik Paris has made history in downhill: 20 victories

In addition to Laura Pirovano's triumph, there was also the success of the South Tyrolean Dominik Paris with his 25th career victory and also the 7th on this Norwegian snow that he evidently loves very much - he also achieved the 20th downhill victory, surpassing the Swiss Peter Mueller. This means that Domme enters the history of skiing as the 2nd best downhill skier of all time: ahead of him, with 25 victories, is only the legendary Austrian Franz Klammer.

And Laura Pirovano tells her story in a video made by DMTC of Marco Del Checcolo that follows this extraordinary blue athlete. A video that best showcases not only her talent but also her human qualities, with the triumph in the World Cup crowning her dedication, perseverance, and talent. "In the most difficult moments, I ask myself why I do this, but fortunately, I immediately find the answer: I put on my skis and feel free to do what I want, to be who I am: for me going fast is a feeling of freedom that I can't find anywhere else."

The 28-year-old from Trentino has won the World Cup in downhill skiing: after taking the lead in the standings following the two victories on March 6-7 in Val di Fassa (her first in the top world circuit), she also asserted herself with authority in the last seasonal event, at the Finals in Kvitfjell (Norway), sealing a historic page for her and for Italian alpine skiing.

A success that represents the culmination of a constant competitive growth path, stronger than any difficulty: in 2018 and 2021, she indeed suffered serious knee injuries, which, however, did not affect her tenacity and her desire to prove her abilities to the world. Lolli, as she is commonly known, is a unique figure in the world of skiing. Her roots are in three different places: the village of Spiazzo, in Val Rendena, between Adamello and the Brenta Group, not far from Madonna di Campiglio (where she grew up in sports), Milano (the family's city of origin), and Camogli. And it is precisely the latter that is her "place of the heart," where she finds peace and balance away from the snow, practicing her other great passion: diving. It is this desire and ability to find balance between life and sport that has fueled her perseverance during the most complex years of her career. For Laura, skiing is not just competition: when she puts on her skis, she feels fully herself. Skiing down an icy slope at over 130 km/h of maximum speed is nothing but a pure expression of her self.

For DMTC, which has supported Laura since September 2021, this success has an even deeper meaning: "We believed in her career project from the very beginning, supporting her even in difficult times. Today, almost five years later, we celebrate this extraordinary victory as a symbol of determination, perseverance, and trust in talent."
