Siracusa confirms its role of excellence for international competitive training: the Latvian Olympic canoe-kayak team has chosen the city as the location for the Training Camp lasting nine days, from March 7 to 16, in anticipation of the opening of the international season scheduled for May with the first stages of the World Cup.
The seven athletes from the Latvia Canoe Federation were hosted by the Canoa Club Siracusa, which provided continuous technical and logistical support, with assistance on the water during all training sessions. The choice of Siracusa was based on the favorable climatic conditions and the scenic beauty of the area: one of the sunniest cities in Europe, capable of offering tranquility and ideal temperatures in the pre-season period.
The sessions took place between the Anapo River and the Mamma Iabica Canal, both characterized by flat waters, absence of current, courses marked by buoys for 500 meters, and high banks that mitigate the effect of the wind — perfect technical conditions for work on speed, technique, and team synchronization.
The outcome of the gathering is extremely positive: athletes and staff praised the quality of the natural facilities and the local organization. A result that strengthens the reputation of Siracusa as an international reference point for canoe-kayak and that could encourage new arrivals of high-level teams in view of the Olympic and World Cup events.
