Modica soccer, 45 years later it’s a big celebration again
From the nostalgic memories in the red and blue house to last Sunday’s celebration: a long journey of emotions.
Modica promoted to C2 in 1981
There are dates that mark the identity of a community, and Sunday, March 15, 2026 has fully entered among these for Modica.
For the supporters of A.S.D. Modica Calcio 1932, the final whistle released an emotion that had been missing for almost half a century: a leap back of 45 years, to the glories of 1981.
“It was the year of the historic promotion to Serie C2 (winning the Serie D championship), an achievement that marked an era for the football of the County,” recall the former players of Modica, the team of Gigi Bodi that reached C2 in the 1980-1981 season.
“Today, just like then, the city has been painted red and blue to celebrate the ‘Great Guys’ who fought on the field, honoring a jersey that carries with it almost a century of history.”
The wave of enthusiasm felt in the stands and in the streets of the center has evoked the unforgettable atmosphere of the mid-Eighties: a visceral passion that has never faded, finding new life in this prestigious achievement.
The result is not only due to the value shown on the field, but the outcome of a credible project, capable of involving the fan base and the entire Modican community.
Congratulations to the management, the technical staff, and, above all, the players, who have managed to withstand the pressure of a demanding and passionate crowd.
“Great guys, congratulations to A.S.D. Modica Calcio 1932. Today as then, the heart beats strong!” is the unanimous chorus that comes from the entire team of the 1980-81 season.
