Palermo stops just when it matters: the comeback in the second half is not enough, caught by Juve Stabia.

Even before the result, certainly fundamental, it was the reaction that Inzaghi had loudly requested. To put behind the bitter defeat in Monza, to restart in the best possible way, and to extend the already remarkable streak of ten consecutive home victories. But for the pinks the match starts uphill. After nine minutes, the counterattack from the "Vespe" is lethal: Joronen brings down Okoro in the area and Dionisi awards a penalty kick. From the spot, Leone deceives the Rosanero goalkeeper and puts the yellow-blues ahead.

The response from Palermo takes time: the pinks' play is a horizontal and sterile passing in the midfield, which has as its only outlet the attempt at a cross in search of a header in the area that never arrives. Midway through the first half, finally the first Rosanero alarm entrusted as always to Pohjanpalo: the Finn first skillfully crosses with his left foot on Augello's cross but is blocked by the excellent Confente, then shoots powerfully from the edge, finding the wall of Giorgini. But it is not the reaction needed: Juve Stabia is organized, waits compactly, and breaks when it sees space to attack. The first half thus slips by without major dangers created near Confente.

The music changes in the second half: at the start of the second half, Inzaghi decides to change formation and opts for an ultra-offensive setup sending Le Douaron onto the field in place of Bereszynski. A change that bears the hoped-for fruits: Palermo begins to turn and especially to attack with danger. Thus, at the 60th minute, the equalizer arrives. Johnsen from the edge invents a delightful cross with the outside of his foot, Bani rushes onto the ball and is overwhelmed by Confente. The VAR calls Dionisi for an on-field review and the referee awards a penalty kick to the pinks. From the spot, of course, Joel Pohjanpalo who deceives the opposing goalkeeper and puts the match back on track.

The "Barbera" roars and pushes Palermo, which responds: three minutes after the equalizer, another well-developed action on the left, Ceccaroni shoots against the crossbar and Bani taps in on the line to make it 2-1.  The comeback is furious but not sufficient, because Juve Stabia does not give up and at the 73rd minute manages to equalize: Cacciamani, unleashed on the left, crosses and finds Mosti who punishes Joronen with a volley.

The Rosanero try to regain ground to find the new advantage, but Juve Stabia holds on and, on the counterattack, comes close to a surprise with Cacciamani, stopped by Joronen. It ends 2-2: Palermo's streak of nine consecutive victories at the "Barbera" comes to an end.
