The Fincantieri Foundation was established in March 2008 with the aim of preserving and enhancing the historical heritage of the group, which consists of documents, archives, and testimonies related to civil and military shipbuilding, as well as important elements of industrial archaeology. Through its activities, the Foundation aims to safeguard and pass on the memory of the Italian naval and mechanical industry, one of the sectors that has significantly contributed to the industrial development of the country. The mission of the Foundation is to tell and make accessible the history of this strategic sector, while simultaneously promoting research, study, and dissemination activities. Among the supported initiatives are cultural projects, educational programs, publications, and historical research activities that reconstruct the evolution of Italian shipbuilding, highlighting the technological, economic, and social value of an excellence recognized internationally.

Through the preservation and enhancement of historical archives, the publication of volumes, and support for study projects, the Foundation works to make a technical and cultural heritage accumulated over decades accessible. It is not only about safeguarding the past but also about creating a dialogue between memory and innovation, contributing to the dissemination of knowledge and the education of new generations.

In this perspective, the Foundation - chaired by lawyer Fausto Recchia - is configured as a bridge between the tradition of the naval and mechanical industry and the challenges of the future. Its role is not only to preserve historical memory but also to stimulate new reflections on the relationship between technology, industry, and society, guiding the sector towards new paths of development.

2024 has marked a phase of renewal with the establishment of the new Board of Directors and the initiation of a relaunch of activities. The Foundation aims to strengthen its role with an expanded mission and new projects, with the goal of putting the historical and cultural heritage accumulated over time at the service of communities and young generations. The new course is based on three main pillars: history, innovation, and inclusion. On one hand, the enhancement of industrial roots and memory, on the other hand, attention to the technological and social changes affecting the sector. In this integrated vision, the Foundation proposes itself as a guardian of tradition but also as a promoter of new opportunities for dialogue and development, contributing to building a shared future.

Deeply rooted in the territories where the group's shipyards operate, the Foundation reflects the historical bond between Fincantieri and the Italian maritime communities. This relationship translates into initiatives that intertwine culture, innovation, and social inclusion, with the aim of generating value not only economically but also socially and culturally. Sailing Together: cultural and social inclusion in shipyards Among the most significant projects promoted by the Fincantieri Foundation is Sailing Together, an initiative designed to promote the cultural and social inclusion of foreign workers employed in shipyards. The project arises from the awareness that the presence of labor from different countries represents an important component of the group's workforce. For this reason, Fincantieri has chosen to invest in integration policies that can facilitate dialogue and collaboration within workplaces. Through a collaboration with the Dante Alighieri Association, Italian language courses have been launched in some of the group's shipyards. The initiative has immediately recorded a strong interest: requests to participate in the first cycle of lessons have indeed exceeded expectations.
