Dear Giorgia, I hereby submit, as you have officially wished, my resignation from the role of minister that you entrusted to me and which I believe I have carried out to the best of my abilities and without any contraindications,” begins the resignation letter of Daniela Santanchè from her position as Minister of Tourism addressed to Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

“I thank you for the recognition and for the trust you have shown me during these years of leading the Ministry of Tourism,” Santanchè states. “I wanted (and I hope you understand) it to be publicly clear that it was you who asked me to leave this role because, as I have always said, I would only resign in response to your explicit and public request. I wanted it to be clear, for my honor, that I am taking a step back, not solely due to the request that the head of my Party deems useful and appropriate. It was important to me to emphasize that as of today my criminal record is spotless and that regarding the redundancy fund issue, there is not even a simple indictment.

“Yesterday, perhaps abruptly (you will understand my state of mind), I expressed my unavailability for an immediate resignation because I wanted it to be separate from the comments on the referendum, as I would not want to be the scapegoat for a defeat that was certainly not caused by me, given the results in Lombardy and even in my municipality. I also wanted my resignation to be separate from the contingent and very different issue concerning On Delmastro, who is also paying a high price. Having clarified this, I have no difficulty in saying 'I obey' and doing what you ask of me. I do not hide a bit of bitter disappointment regarding the outcome of my ministerial journey, but in my life, I am used to settling my accounts and often those of others as well. I care more about our friendship and the future of our movement,” Santanchè further writes in the letter, which concludes with “best regards, Daniela.”
