Taormina submerged by potholes: protests at an all-time high
Former Deputy Mayor Andrea Raneri accuses Cateno De Luca of negligence and media showmanship, while the paving plan is delayed and work worth 52,000 euros has been awarded to a company from Giardini Naxos.
Protests are skyrocketing over the terrible conditions of the roads in Taormina following a farce by the mayor, Cateno De Luca. "It was easy to foresee - says former deputy mayor Andrea Raneri - a part-time mayor, more focused on his political project than on the city, could only lead Taormina to these results.
A disaster from the perspective of tax collection, with a tripled tax burden and minimal attention to the city's issues, almost bothersome. The farce of the fall into the ditch in Barcelona, in perfect Fantozzi style, leaves one bewildered... but not surprised. Meanwhile, in Trappitello and Taormina, the roads full of potholes and evident issues are met with media shows that have little to do with solving real problems, especially on a road under the jurisdiction of the Metropolitan City of Messina, which should have already been fixed.
Reports of dangerous potholes are coming from various parts, including Taormina center, which should prepare for the summer season with targeted interventions. The state of disrepair of via Francavilla in Trappitello is compounded by some almost craters on via circonvallazione in the heart of the tourist town and via Porta Pasquale.
Meanwhile, the administration has long planned a detailed asphalt laying plan. However, this intervention is delayed. Recently, works worth about 52 thousand euros have been scheduled to carry out, indeed, ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the road heritage of Palazzo dei Giurati. The works have been entrusted to a company from Giardini Naxos by the offices of the Taormina municipal house. It is, in fact, a modular plan. The company will be called upon to address any emergencies that arise throughout the year. It often happens, in fact, that one encounters potholes or sudden depressions caused, perhaps, by weather events. Now, however, it seems the time has come to intervene at critical points.
