Bartolozzi and Delmastro resign

Giusi Bartolozzi, Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Justice and Undersecretary of Justice Andrea Delmastro have resigned from their respective roles. The decision for both came after a meeting with the Minister of Justice, Carlo Nordio, at the offices on Via Arenula, even though until this morning during Start on Sky TG24, the Minister of Justice, commenting on the outcome of the referendum, when asked if the position of the Chief of Staff of his ministry was in question, had replied: "No, absolutely."

"I submitted my irrevocable resignation today as Undersecretary of Justice. I have always fought against crime, even with concrete and important results, and although I did nothing wrong, I made a mistake which I remedied as soon as I became aware of it.

I take responsibility for it, in the interest of the Nation, even before for the affection and respect I have for the government and for the Prime Minister." This is stated in a note by Andrea Delmastro Delle Vedove.

Giusy Bartolozzi found herself in hot water after a statement about the judiciary during the program Il Punto on Telecolor.

Delmastro, on the other hand, was involved in the case of a company, "Le 5 Forchette Srl", in which the FdI member held a share. The company also included Miriam Caroccia, daughter of Mauro, who is currently in prison in Viterbo serving a final sentence of 4 years for the investigation by the Dda of Rome into the camorra-style clan led by Michele Senese.

The resignations of Delmastro and Bartolozzi had been strongly urged in recent weeks by many political figures from the Left in light of a defense from Nordio and Prime Minister Meloni.

Bartolozzi will be replaced by Vittorio Corasaniti, a magistrate and deputy chief of staff at the offices on Via Arenula. The other deputy is magistrate Chiara Fasano. It remains to be determined in the coming days whether a new undersecretary will be appointed following the resignation of Andrea Delmastro (from FdI), or if the delegations - such as those for the Dap and the penitentiary police - will be assigned to other members of the ministry already in office.
