But who has “won” and who has “lost”, in light of the referendum vote in the province of Agrigento? The data, in its rawness, highlights a fairly contained average participation, in line with the regional figure. Against a voter turnout of 46.14% in Sicily, in the province, the citizens who went to the polls were 43.33%

The figure is the result of profoundly different realities: it ranges from the peak of Sambuca di Sicilia, where 55.95% of eligible voters participated, to the historic low of Lampedusa and Linosa, which recorded just 26.93% participation.

As for the results of the Yes vote, the proposal found its highest support precisely in the Pelagie, with 59.96%. Other municipalities that saw the supporters prevail include Siculiana with 51.55%, Montallegro with 50.69%, Burgio with 50.43%, Palma di Montechiaro with 50.40%, and Camastra with 50.36%, a large part of centers with right-wing administrations. In Agrigento city, the Yes stopped at 43.16% against a turnout of 46.78%.

The No front, on the other hand, spread in numerous centers, achieving its best result in Sambuca di Sicilia with 73.17%. Following with clear rejection percentages are Bivona at 72.79%, Calamonaci at 70.26%, Raffadali at 69.54%, Racalmuto at 67.26%, and Santo Stefano Quisquina at 67.21%. Also in Cattolica Eraclea and Cammarata, the No significantly exceeded the two-thirds threshold, standing at 67.03% and 64.67%, respectively.

In other nerve centers of the province, the No maintained a constant lead: in Sciacca it reached 59.98% with a turnout of 50.43%, in Canicattì 59.87% with 41.47% of voters, and in Licata 53.09% despite one of the lowest turnouts in the province, equal to 32.19%. Similar results were seen in Favara with 62.92% of No and in Porto Empedocle with 63.60%. Other municipalities like Aragona and Campobello di Licata recorded 66.20% and 66.27% of opposing votes, confirming a general trend in the area towards the preservation of the current system.

On a provincial level, it was mainly Fratelli d'Italia that took the field, which, through conventions with the presence of the party's “bigwigs,” leafleting activities, and “door-to-door” political initiatives, had received the national directive to strongly support the reform project, but the results were likely not what was hoped for and it does not seem that the other center-right parties contributed.

The vote for the Referendum, moreover, represents an important turning point for Agrigento in view of the Administrative elections. As will be remembered, it was the party of Giorgia Meloni that indicated this date as the deadline before which municipal elections could not be discussed, and now the debate will resume in a context with not a few toxins to dispose of.
