REFERENDUM
Schlein: "From the polls, a clear message, there is an alternative majority, we will defeat Meloni in the next elections."
The press conference of the secretary of the Democratic Party at Nazareno to comment on the referendum outcome.
“A clear political message is coming to Meloni and the government, who now need to reflect, they need to listen to the Country and the true priorities. It is also a message for us. The Country is asking for an alternative and we have the responsibility to organize it. There is already a alternative majority to the government. This vote gives us a great responsibility. We will work with the forces of the progressive coalition to build the alternative.” These are the words of the secretary of the Pd Elly Schlein at a press conference at Nazareno called to comment on the victory of No in the justice referendum.
“We have won, a majority of the Country has stopped a wrong reform. An even more beautiful victory, because we started from a predicted defeat, yet we overturned that outcome. The young people made the difference, even though they could not vote if they were away from home,” explained Elly Schlein, according to whom “there are more right-wing voters who voted No than the opposite.”
And when asked if the prime minister should resign after this defeat, the secretary of the Pd replied: “We will beat Meloni in the next elections, I said it before and I reiterate it now. It is clear that this vote, with a very high turnout, is a message that the government must take into account.”
“I hope to see the progressive leaders in the square celebrating together,” she said again. “We have always said that we will find together the ways to build the program. We will discuss everything, methods and timing. I have always said that in the case of primaries I would be absolutely available. We continue to be stubbornly united.”
