Referendum, Nordio: "I take note of the decision of the sovereign people"

Following the referendum on Justice, Minister of Justice Carlo Nordio stated: «I respectfully acknowledge the decision of the sovereign people. Our intention was to definitively implement the project conceived by Giuliano Vassalli with the accusatory process and enshrined in Article 111 of the Constitution, which defines the judge as third and impartial. We have devoted all our energies to explaining, in accessible terms, the complexity of this reform. It is not our intention to attribute any political significance to this vote. We thank the part of the electorate that has placed its trust in us, and we are consoled by the high voter turnout, which confirms the strength of our democracy».
