Voting in Syracuse: hours, special polling places, and everything you need to know
Despite 22 resignations among the presidents, the sections are regularly constituted. 12 special polling places have been activated in hospitals and prisons.
All established in Syracuse the 123 electoral sections for the vote on the referendum on justice reform taking place today and Monday.
Also this year, but to a lesser extent than in the past, it was necessary to replace some polling station presidents who decided not to accept the appointment from the Court of Appeal of Catania. A total of 22 refused, and they were replaced by drawing from the list compiled by the municipal electoral office and created after the public notice issued to gather the availability of interested parties, a list valid only for this voting round.
Yesterday morning, the packages, strictly sealed, containing the electoral material and the keys to the sections, were entrusted to the polling station couriers (municipal staff assigned to this service), who subsequently handed them over to the presidents of the sections. In each section, preliminary voting activities were carried out, such as the stamping and signing of ballots. From 7 the polling stations are open to voters; voting will be possible until 11 PM and from 7 AM to 3 PM on Monday.
The Syracuse sections are all barrier-free. As has been the case for two electoral rounds, sections 78, 79, and 80 have been moved, for accessibility reasons, from the Agricultural Institute on Via Elorina to the elementary school "Giuseppe Lombardo Radice" on Via Archia 46.
12 special sections have been planned: 2 will allow patients from the Umberto I and Rizza hospitals to vote; one is dedicated to inmates of the Cavadonna prison; the other 9, the so-called "flying polling stations", will cater to voters from care facilities with fewer than 100 beds (nursing homes, clinics, and therapeutic communities).
