2026 Local Elections
After the social insults and the solidarity of the other candidates, the tones of the electoral campaign are lowering.
Antonella Russi announces possible legal action, meanwhile campaigns and tours in the neighborhoods with signatures, new memberships, and proposals for the redevelopment of the suburbs.
«Try going to Tehran» where «they put a sack on your head with a hole to see where you put your feet», «Communist of m...». These are the comments that appeared on the Facebook page of the mayoral candidate from the center-left coalition, Antonella Russo, who promises to fight back. «We will not accept attacks that have nothing to do with the expression of democratic thought», she announces, not ruling out legal actions. For her, fresh from the coalition's embrace, with the imprimatur of the big names who came to Piazza Cairoli for the closing of the campaign for the referendum on justice reform, there is solidarity from the other mayoral candidates, who yesterday wanted to express their personal support for the challenger. Meanwhile, the neighborhood tour continues for candidate Federico Basile, who yesterday traveled extensively along the North coast starting from Paradiso. For him, work continued late into the night to complete the lists. The threshold of a thousand candidates between the Municipality and district councils is very close. And in the coming week, new striking endorsements are not ruled out, such as that of Sara Di Ciuccio, former Forza Italia, Giulio Fragale, former Pd, and Giovanni Caruso. For him, it is a separate matter. The councilor, from the Christian Democracy party, will clarify his position and that of his party in a press conference at the beginning of the week. The salon is also open on Sundays for barber candidate Lillo Valvieri, who this morning called on his supporters to join the project and start the signatures for the presentation of the list in support of his candidacy. 700 signatures are needed. The tour of Marcello Scurria also continues in search of the “disasters” of the previous administration, particularly in the urban peripheries. Yesterday, the spotlight was on the Cumia cemetery. «There is an alternative – Scurria stated - to the management of the outgoing administration, and I feel it is my duty to tell the people of Messina that a deep change is finally possible. Our recipe is based on three pillars: more listening, more participation, and a renewed focus on real problems».
Focus on the suburbs and on urban regeneration is also the candidate of the civic movement Rinascita, Gaetano Sciacca, fresh from a public meeting on via Cile in San Licandro, to discuss the state of neglect in which the community center finds itself, previously the seat of the VI district «San Salvatore dei Greci». The goal is to regenerate it and return it to public use.
