Priolo, the Council is officially dissolved: Schifani signs the decree of expiration

The president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, has issued the decree that provides for the dissolution of the municipal council of Priolo Gargallo and the confirmation of the appointment of the for the exercise of functions.

This is the regional official Michele Iacono who, in fact, was already performing the commissioner role in place of the council.

The decree from President Schifani comes after the commissioner, sent to Priolo on January 23 to deliberate, in place of the municipal council, the approval of the Dup (single programming document) 2026/2028, and the budget forecast 2026/2028.

The substitutive action of the commissioner ad acta is determined by the failure of the municipal council to comply with the warning activity, carried out by the same commissioner with the note of March 6 last.

It thus becomes official the expiration of the municipal council which, as is known, did not approve in the chamber the two accounting documents of the local public entity.

Priolo joins other municipalities in the Syracuse area that have been dissolved by decree of the president of the Region.

The latest, in chronological order, was the Municipal Council of Francofonte, dissolved due to the failure to approve the budget amendment for the forecast 2025/2027, with a decree signed by the president of the Region on December 23 last.

Previously, on January 2, 2024, the municipal council of Solarino was declared expired, then reinstated by the Administrative Justice Council with a ruling of October 16 of the same year, before leading to new local elections.

However, the primacy belongs to the capital municipality which, with a decree from the president of the Region, Nello Musumeci, on February 20, 2020, saw its municipal council dissolved for the failure to approve the management report for the financial year 2018 and the administrative appeals of the ousted councilors were of no avail, all rejected.
