Lentini 2026 Elections: dates, candidates, and the issue of the vote of no confidence against Lo Faro
From the vote of the City Council to the possible dates of the May elections. All the latest news on appeals, opinions from the Prefect, and initial candidacies.
The political phase that opens after the approval of the no-confidence motion against the now former mayor Rosario Lo Faro appears complex, filled with uncertainties that, barring any surprises, will lead citizens to the polls in the upcoming electoral round on May 24 and 25.
However, there are procedural uncertainties: the municipal secretary has expressed concerns regarding the fact that the session on the no-confidence motion took place in the absence of the president of the Council, who resigned in the preceding days, and was chaired by the vice president. These concerns may prove unfounded because even in the absence or impediment of the president, the Council can, by law and by statute, operate legitimately. Meanwhile, Mayor Lo Faro has requested an opinion from both the regional department for local authorities and the prefect. In the background, there remains the possibility of an appeal to the administrative court, which could slow down the process and delay the elections. The city is preparing to experience two months of great political activity, passion, debate, and conflict, with an intense and complicated electoral campaign. The engines of local politics are already revving up, and there is a growing protagonism among both the old and new generations ready to step into the field and carve out a role in the city's administrative future.
The first to step forward is regional deputy of Forza Italia Riccardo Gennuso, who states that it is necessary to avoid controversies, think about the future of Lentini, and urges the center-right to unite immediately around a shared program - not a name to ensure stability and development for the city, proposing a credible project. Among the first positions taken, that of Luca La Ferla, a young merchant who has announced his commitment to the Movimento Controcorrente led by regional deputy Ismaele La Vardera, stands out.
"Today a new chapter begins" - he declared - stepping into the field to contribute to the change of the territory. The appeal is directed especially to young people, often forced to leave Sicily in search of opportunities, but who can and must become protagonists of the revitalization.
On the political front, the Democratic Party - the same party that in 2021 contributed to the election of Rosario Lo Faro and that today voted for the no-confidence motion - takes a clear position.
The city secretary Claudia Saccà, with a terse "End" on social media, declared a political season "ambiguous and failed" to be over, emphasizing that the no-confidence motion returns the word to the citizens. Words that mark the beginning of a new chapter that still sees the sovereign people as the main actors who must decide. Citizens are greatly concerned about an electoral campaign that risks not offering a clear vision. Indignation grows especially at the thought that, just two months after the no-confidence motion, the same people who had previously strongly supported the candidacy of Rosario Lo Faro may come forward to ask for votes again after having sent him home.
