Plastic Surgery, after 8 years the simple operational unit sees the light: 3 doctors hired

A step forward towards the establishment of the simple operational unit (Uos) of Plastic Surgery within the Breast Unit. With an eight-year delay. Because the activation of the Uos was already planned in the hospital network of 2018 with 4 beds. Certainly, it is still better than the Infectious Diseases department, which remained on paper, between the hospital network and corporate acts, for a decade: from 2010 it came to light in 2020, in the Covid-19 era.

This time, however, the Asp starts with the doctors. Also because, unlike Infectious Diseases, Plastic Surgery does not require large investments from a structural point of view. The notice for the search for white coats dates back to November 2025 and, on March 20th, with the resolution signed by the Asp's director general, Giuseppe Capodieci, two specialized doctors, Luigi Montesano and Daniele Messina, and a resident doctor, Ludovica Vita, are ready to sign the fixed-term and part-time contract for a duration of six months and thus enter the operating room.

We are hiring specialist doctors in Plastic Surgery – says Giuseppe Capodieciwith the aim of improving the quality of services.” And, while the Uos, brick by brick, finally sees the light, the Asp has renewed the agreement with the Giaccone Polyclinic in Palermo until December 31st.

We maintain the agreement with the Giaccone Polyclinic for caution – continues the director general – The agreement is based on services, so we will call the surgeons from Palermo only if necessary. This is in consideration of the hiring of the two specialists and the resident in Plastic Surgery, whose procedures are being defined.”

The agreement, in fact, provides for the provision in favor of the Asp of “Plastic and reconstructive surgery services within the Breast Unit” – reads the document - in an elective hospitalization regime … with a limit of one monthly access. And “in return for the services rendered – it further states – the Asp will guarantee, for the activity performed by the professional in a conventional regime, an all-inclusive compensation of 3,500 euros for each access, for which a 6-hour activity will be scheduled including both pre and post-operative visits and elective surgeries.
