Further delays, further funds at risk for the Municipality. The project for the safety and environmental restoration of the former Acqua dei Corsari landfill is in real danger of losing over 11 million euros allocated for one of the most anticipated interventions for the redevelopment of the southern coast. The work – already funded in 2019 and repeatedly indicated as a priority – is well beyond the expected timeline. The deadline, initially set for 2023 and then postponed to 2026, now appears difficult to achieve: the actual expenditure exceeds just over one million euros and the works have not yet significantly commenced.

On the matter, city councilors Giulia Argiroffi and Ugo Forello from Oso intervene. "The permanent safety and environmental restoration of the former landfill represent a valuable and indispensable intervention – they state. – Yet the timeline has not been respected and resources and opportunities risk being lost." For the two opposition members, "the official data is clear: we are still dramatically behind, with works effectively not started," a condition that makes it "impossible to meet deadlines without losing funding." Hence the complaint of "continuous delays and inefficiencies" and the alarm for "over 11 million euros at risk." Argiroffi and Forello emphasize: "A part of the resources already disbursed, amounting to over 1.8 million euros, could be returned, with repercussions on public finances." They add: "This is a fundamental project for the environment, public health, and the revitalization of the southern coast, which is now seriously compromised."

"The alarm raised is unfounded – says councilor Pietro Alongi – the funding that the Municipality has communicated to the Region has a spending forecast of 8,740,449.27 euros for the year 2026, with a deadline for the completion of the works set for February 2027. Given the slowdown in works due to coastal defense works because of the retreat of the shoreline, which occurred with the recent extreme weather events, we are updating a new timeline with the possibility of postponing the deadline by three months. It should be noted that the obligation to respect the intermediate phases and the final phase of the timeline must take into account the final date set for the use of financial resources, which is fixed for the end of 2029. It is specified that in April there will be an acceleration of the works so that the delays can be recovered.
