In just a few months, there have been at least seven incursions by thieves and vandals at the building on Via Libertà of the “Giovan Battista Nicolosi” Comprehensive School. A slow and continuous drip that can no longer be tolerated. The situation is well beyond acceptable limits, as highlighted by the school principal Melita Clemenza, who is calling for action to strengthen security, stopping a decline that risks causing significant damage, which the school will find impossible to bear in the future.

Everything is linked to the renovation works taking place inside the building, which has been closed to classes for several months. The halt to student presence in the classroom has made life easy for thieves and vandals who, taking advantage of the absence of controls activated by the company, have targeted the building. The result? About 40 laptops have been stolen, while vandals have destroyed desks, chairs, cabinets, blackboards, and everything that was easy to destroy during the incursions, including fire extinguishers. "We are very concerned about this situation - emphasizes school principal Melita Clemenza - A lot of school materials have been destroyed, materials that we will be forced to repurchase when we return to school. We request interventions to strengthen the control and security of the building during the execution of the works."

What worries principal Melita Clemenza is not only thieves and vandals but also the slow progress of the works. In addition to this ongoing intervention, which is still far from completion, the school is the beneficiary of a funding of approximately 1.5 million euros for energy efficiency. In this latter case, the bad news is that the tender to assign the works by the Authority has not yet been completed. The fear is that by next September, at the start of the new school year, the building may still be off-limits for students, causing enormous inconvenience for the entire school population, which is currently scattered across multiple school buildings, with significant difficulties for students, parents, and the teaching staff.

Staying on the topic of schools, attention is also focused on the former I teaching circle building “Lombardo-Radice” of the “Lombardo Radice - Virgilio” school and the “Marconi” building of the “Marconi” Comprehensive School. For the former I circle, the problem over the last two months has been related to the non-functioning heating systems at the school. Over the weekend, a meeting took place between the commissioners and the school principal at the Municipality, and it is hoped that when students return to class tomorrow, the heating will be operational. As for the “Marconi” building, the school has been waiting for months for the energy efficiency interventions to commence.
