New bus line between Nesima metro and Belsito, protocol approved
The mayor of Misterbianco: "We are still investing in public transportation in the neighborhoods"
Approved by the City Council is the proposal for the memorandum of understanding between the Municipality and the Metropolitan City of Catania, regarding the "charges related to the continuity and improvement of local public transport", for the launch of a bus service that will connect the Belsito neighborhood to the Nesima Metro station with a direct line. This initiative is part of the “Tpl Comuni Viciniori” plan of the Metropolitan City, aimed at creating a territorial plan of circular lines with numerous urban stops.
In a program for “greater sustainable mobility” in the metropolitan area for students, workers, and families, the service will be managed by Amts Catania, with a total investment of nearly 200,000 euros, of which 70,000 plus VAT will be covered by the municipal budget, to "offer a modern, accessible, and free service that strengthens urban public mobility" serving a large part of the Belsito neighborhood with new runs scheduled every 45 minutes. Before the approval (with one abstention) of the convention proposal, the possibility of a subsequent expansion for the benefit of the fractions (necessary after the decommissioning of the Fce railway line) was strongly urged by the opposition. The Administration also announced in the chamber that two shuttle buses connecting Nesima to Misterbianco center and Lineri-Montepalma are also imminent.
The mayor Marco Corsaro thanked the Council "that allows us to start in the coming weeks, after completing the last procedural steps with the Metropolitan City and Amts, a strategic service, offering the strengthening of bus lines to Catania and improving daily mobility opportunities in the suburbs, with the project to extend this activity to other neighborhoods in a cascading manner." The president of the Council, Lorenzo Ceglie, also thanks "the II Council Commission, the Public Works Office and the officials, the technicians of the Metropolitan City and the president of Amts."
