Regarding the excavation works for the replacement of medium voltage ducts that are affecting various areas of the urban center and peripheral areas (Authorization No. 53/2025), the Municipal Administration of Modica firmly addresses the issue of road surface restorations.

Following numerous inspections and legitimate reports received from residents, it has emerged that the repair works carried out by the company commissioned by e-distribuzione S.p.A. have not been executed properly. In several sections, settlements of the filling material have already occurred, creating situations of potential danger for road traffic and urban decor.

"We are not willing to tolerate sloppy work that puts our citizens' safety at risk and damages the road heritage of Modica," declares the Councilor for Maintenance, Piero Armenia.

I have already formally warned the commissioned company, demanding the immediate restoration of the site in all areas where the intervention has failed or has not been completed according to the required safety standards. With the company, following an inspection, we have already agreed on methods and timelines for completion.

It is unacceptable that an intervention aimed at improving the electrical service turns into a permanent inconvenience for traffic. The company must intervene immediately to rectify the issues at its own expense: we will monitor every single meter of excavation - emphasized Councilor Armenia - so that the work is delivered to the city in perfect condition.

The works, which involve essential arteries such as Via Sorda Sampieri, Via Resistenza Partigiana, Via Ugo La Malfa, and the Circonvallazione Ortisiana, include the replacement of underground cables for a total length of over 3 kilometers.

The Administration reiterates that the final inspection will not be signed nor will the guarantee bonds be released until every single section has been restored with proper asphalt, eliminating depressions and hazards.

The councilor also specifies that the control activity concerns not only e-distribuzione but all other companies receiving permits for excavations on public land.
