According to what was reported to the Washington Post by American and Israeli security officials, the new supreme leader of Iran, Mojtaba Khamenei, is "injured, isolated, and not responding to messages being sent to him." This was reported by The Times of Israel.

According to Israeli sources, in the meantime, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and some religious leaders have strengthened their control over Iran. On Saturday, Axios reported that the CIA and the Israeli Mossad have information suggesting that Mojtaba is alive, adding that among the evidence are attempts by some Iranian officials to organize in-person meetings with the supreme leader, unsuccessfully, for security reasons. But, a source added: "We have no evidence that it is really him giving the orders".

Khamenei, who has been unreachable since he was proclaimed the new supreme leader following the assassination of his father, has never been seen in person nor heard from via audio message since his election, fueling speculation about his true state of health, especially given his involvement in the Israeli-American raid that killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
