The Iranian Defense Council has threatened to deploy naval mines to block the entire Persian Gulf if Iranian coasts or islands are attacked.

"Any attempt by the enemy to attack the Iranian coasts or islands will naturally lead to the mining of all access routes and communication lines in the Persian Gulf and along the coasts with various types of naval mines, including floating mines," the statement, released by Fars, reads.

"In that case, the entire Persian Gulf would be in a situation practically similar to that of the Strait of Hormuz for a long time," Tehran states.

"If the United States follows through on its threat to "annihilate the Iranian power grid, Iran will undoubtedly target Israeli power plants, those of the countries in the region that supply U.S. bases in the Persian Gulf, as well as the energy, industrial, and economic infrastructures of the region where the United States holds a stake," the Revolutionary Guards also stated in a press release today.

"We are determined to respond to any threat with the same deterrent intensity that it generates. If you hit electricity, we hit electricity,” the statement adds, as cited by the Mehr agency.

On Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that Iranian power plants would be targeted if Tehran did not "fully open" the Strait of Hormuz to all ships within 48 hours.
