Two people have died in the collision between an Air Canada plane and a fire truck on the runway at New York's LaGuardia Airport last night. This was reported by Cnn citing a law enforcement official. The victims were the pilot and co-pilot of the plane, while two other people were injured.

The aircraft, a CRJ-900 operated by Jazz Aviation, a regional partner of Air Canada, had departed from Montreal, the platform specified. According to FlightRadar24, the plane “was taxiing on the runway when it struck” the vehicle crossing its path. Unverified images shared on social media show an Air Canada plane with the front and cockpit severely damaged, apparently on a runway at night, with emergency vehicles nearby. All departing flights from LaGuardia are reported to be delayed or canceled starting from the early hours of today, as reported on the airport's website. LaGuardia had already experienced flight disruptions due to bad weather, the airport stated last night on X. Passengers were also required to wait longer for security checks due to “staffing issues” caused by lack of federal funding, it was reported last week.

New York's LaGuardia Airport will remain closed at least until 2 PM local time (7 PM in Italy).
