Fire in a leather goods store on Salizada San Moisè causes blackout and evacuation
The firefighters intervened.
Forty guests of the Hotel Firenze in Venice, just a few steps from St. Mark's Square, were evacuated due to a fire that broke out on the ground floor in a leather goods store on Salizada San Moisè.
The flames erupted shortly before 2 AM today and prompted the response of two fire brigade teams dispatched from the Dorsoduro station.
The fire developed inside the commercial establishment due to a malfunction of an electrical device, the flames affected only the internal premises and involved the electrical line, consequently causing a blackout in the area.
The smoke spread to the upper floors and activated the fire alarm of the Hotel Firenze.
The 40 guests of the hotel, all unharmed, were first led out into the street and later escorted by hotel staff and local police to other accommodation facilities.
