Iran has expressed its readiness to cooperate with the International Maritime Organization to enhance maritime security and protect seafarers in the Gulf, stated the Iranian representative to the United Nations. Ali Mousavi asserted that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to all ships, except those linked to the "enemies of Iran", adding that passage through the channel is possible due to security measures coordination with Tehran, according to the semi-official news agency Mehr cited by Al Jazeera. "Diplomacy remains Iran's priority. However, a complete cessation of aggression, as well as mutual trust, are even more important," Mousavi stated, adding that Israeli and U.S. attacks against Iran are at the "root of the current situation in the Strait of Hormuz."

The Iranian army meanwhile announced that it will target energy facilities and water desalination plants in the region if Donald Trump follows through on threats to destroy Iranian power plants. "If Iran's oil and energy infrastructure is attacked by the enemy - says the spokesperson for the army's operational command, Khatam al-Anbiya, to Fars - all energy, IT, and water desalination infrastructure belonging to the U.S. and the regime in the region will be targeted."
