The Court of Cassation recognizes the mafia threat to Roberto Saviano after 18 years
The writer's thanks to the Carabinieri and criticism of the State for the lack of freedom.
Roberto Saviano
“Today, 18 years after the events, the Court of Cassation has definitively recognized the mafia threat that I was the recipient of.” Thus Roberto Saviano in a post on Facebook after the ruling of the Cassation regarding the threats made against him.
“In 2008, Francesco Bidognetti, leader of the Casalesi clan, through his lawyer, Michele Santonastaso, during the appeal of the maxi trial Spartacus, threatened me and Rosaria Capacchione leveraging his mafia power and communicating externally that we were the targets and that Gomorrah had contributed to the defeat of the Casalesi clan. It took 18 years for a definitive ruling, while I have already been serving a sentence for mafia threats for 20 years,” writes Saviano.
“I thank the Carabinieri who have been by my side, who have protected me, reassured me, I thank one by one, from the bottom of my heart, all the Carabinieri who in these long years have been by my side, being like family to me. But the State, today, cannot say it has won, because it is not able to guarantee me a future of freedom, freedom from the danger that has loomed since the day that threat was uttered. My thoughts - he concludes - go finally to all those people who over the years have made me the target of the most vile attacks. Many of them, today, sit in government.”
