Fire at the Biennale, Serbia pavilion involved
Flames from the roof, complicated intervention due to strong winds
Venice, thick column of smoke over the Gardens: fire at the Serbia Pavilion of the Biennale, blaze under control
A noticeable column of dark smoke appeared this morning over Venice.
Shortly before 10, the alarm was triggered at the lagoon headquarters of the firefighters for a fire that broke out from the roof of the Serbia Pavilion at the Biennale Gardens, in the heart of the historic center.
Thanks to the prompt intervention of the 115 teams, the exhibition area has been brought under control.
However, the flames continued to flare up after the initial extinguishing efforts due to the strong gusts that have been affecting the lagoon since Tuesday night, forcing firefighters to make multiple cleanup passes.
From initial assessments, the blaze reportedly involved the outer part of the roof, without causing injuries and without the damage extending to nearby furnishings, artworks, or structures.
Numerous firefighter units are currently operating on site with various deployments; technicians and officials are keeping the situation under control, preventing any risk of spread.
In support of the 115, nautical patrols from the local police of Venice have also intervened, engaged in inspections in the area of the Biennale, involving the Serbia Pavilion in the center.
