War
From Soleimani to Larijani, all the top officials eliminated in the joint U.S.-Israel raids as the American director of counterterrorism resigns.
Joe Kent's choice is striking, as he had expressed more than one concern about the decision to attack Iran.
The director of the American National Counterterrorism Center has resigned in protest against the war of the United States and Israel against Iran. Joe Kent laments that the Trump administration entered the conflict only due to "pressures from Israel and its powerful American lobby". "After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective immediately - he communicated -. I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran did not pose an imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressures from Israel and its powerful American lobby."
The latest, today, is Ali Larijani, head of the Iranian National Security Council and considered the “de facto leader” of Iran who was eliminated by the Israeli air force in a raid on the bunker where he had taken refuge with his son. At least a dozen high-ranking Iranian officials have been eliminated so far in the joint operation launched by the United States and Israel aimed at removing the security threat posed by Tehran and, according to Benjamin Netanyahu, also for a regime change.
Among them are at least five high military commanders, including Ali Shamkhani, a close advisor to the late Supreme Leader. Former secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, already seriously injured in the 12-day war in June, Shamkhani was killed on the first day of the new offensive. On the same day, February 28, Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh, Revolutionary Guards commander Mohammad Pakpour, and chief of staff of the armed forces Abdolrahim Mousavi were killed. Also killed in the same raid was Mohammad Shirazi, who had been head of the Military Office of the Supreme Leader of Iran since 1989.
On the same day that Larijani was killed, dealing a heavy blow to the Islamic Republic, the Israeli army also declared that it had eliminated, in another attack, Gholamreza Soleimani, commander of the Basij paramilitary forces, responsible for the harsh crackdown on anti-government protesters. His deputy, Qasim Qureshi, was also killed. Israeli sources reported that Rahman Makdem, head of the Special Operations Division of the Revolutionary Guards, and Salah Asadi, head of intelligence at the Iranian military emergency headquarters, were also killed in the first wave of raids. Among the high-ranking Iranian officials eliminated, Israel also points to Reza Mozaffari Nia, former director of the advanced weapons program of the Organization for Defensive Innovation and Research (Spnd) in Tehran and promoter of nuclear weapons development. Also killed by Israel was Hossein Jabal Amelian, president of the Spnd, who over the years promoted projects related to nuclear weapons.
