The new Infrastructure Decree-Law, set to be published in the Official Gazette, focuses entirely on strong accelerations for the process of the Bridge over the Strait, with the immediate restart of procedures for the connection between Sicily and Calabria. This was anticipated by Prima Pagina News, infrastructure agency To push the accelerator, the decree imposes precise deadlines on the Ministry of Infrastructure for updating the economic-financial plan and for dialogue with the European Union regarding the Environmental Impact Assessment. Fundamental to this push will be the role of the commissioners: the CEO of Italian Railway Network (Rfi) is indeed appointed as the extraordinary commissioner for the railway networks complementary to the Bridge (such as the Battipaglia-Reggio Calabria and Messina-Gazzi routes), receiving special powers and additional financial allocations of over 1.2 billion euros until 2034.

Another pillar of the decree concerns the need to ensure safe highways and efficient roadways throughout the national territory. To achieve quick results, the Government once again relies on figures endowed with broad powers of derogation: the commissioners tasked with managing the Gran Sasso aquifer and the A24 and A25 networks are indeed extended until 2028, unlocking over 66 million euros necessary to ensure safe and well-maintained highways in the 2026-2028 triennium. The goal of safer and smoother roadways without additional costs also involves the CEO of ANAS, who takes over as commissioner to streamline the procedures for dozens of critical road works, including the Statale 106 Jonica, the Aurelia, and the Trasversale delle Serre.

The network of extraordinary commissioners is finally extended to apply the same accelerations to other crucial nodes in the country. The CEO of Rfi will act in a commissioner capacity to unlock High-Speed Rail on routes such as Salerno-Reggio Calabria and Naples-Bari, but also for Line C of Rome and the infrastructure related to Euro 2032. Additional rapid interventions for major events and strategic resources complete the framework of the decree, with funds for the Milan-Cortina 2026 Olympics, the standardization of calls for beach concessions, the extension for regasifiers, and the transfer of the Mose of Venice to state property.
