Long, uninterrupted applause, with everyone standing, for the lectio doctoralis delivered by President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, complete with staff and cloak, at the end of the ceremony for the conferral of the honorary degree in Politics, Institutions, and Market by the University of Florence, as part of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the School of Political Sciences "Cesare Alfieri". Before leaving the grand hall of the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Mattarella greeted and shook hands with the rector Alessandra Petrucci and the professors on stage. All around, the audience, composed mainly of professors, scholars, and students, stood and applauded loudly for the Head of State until his exit from the hall. Several times, the audience also applauded passages from Mattarella's lectio, including one on Ezio Tarantelli dedicated to the history of the Cesare Alfieri School.

“There is a need to put the person back at the center, the human and universal values, the sense of community that enhances the value of relationships between people, of respect and mutual recognition of dignity and rights. It is necessary, as many of those who have worked in this School have done, to dedicate oneself to study with passion, in the various fields of knowledge so that the new frontiers of knowledge can be explored and cultivated to achieve the collective well-being that stems from the centrality of the person, of each person, of their rights and duties. This must be done as Francesco Protonotari, the first director of the Nuova Antologia, another creation of Florence as the capital, urged, as "independent and courageous spirits",” said the Head of State who, during his second stop in Florence, visited the Historical Institute of the Resistance and Contemporary Age.
