At the Regional Short Course Championships in Catania, Poseidon athletes shine

In individual events, category record achieved by Aryiel Angemi from Unime: 30'' flat in the 50 backstroke. The sprinter from the Peloritana club is also the most decorated in the women's category: 5 golds (50 and 100 free, 50 and 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly)

Three days full of emotions, competition, and sportsmanship animated the Regional Championships in short course held at the Nesima pool in Catania. The top duel between clubs saw Poseidon prevail, finishing first with 752 points, over Pol. Mimmo Ferrito, which came in second with 714.5 points. Also on the podium was Unime with 487 points (in the photo, the awards ceremony with the president of the regional committee of Federnuoto, Sergio Parisi).

Highlighting individual performances is the category record achieved by Aryiel Angemi of Unime (in the photo with Parisi): a net time of 30 seconds in the 50 backstroke. The sprinter from the Peloritana club is also the most decorated in the women's category: 5 golds (50 and 100 freestyle, 50 and 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly). A quartet of victories for Marta Leto (Ita 12001; 200, 400, 800, and 1500 freestyle), and a double win for Alice Moceo (Sun Club; 100 and 200 breaststroke).

In the men's category, the list of multiple winners is led by Vincenzo Maniaci of Tc Palermo 3 with 5 golds (50 and 100 butterfly, 100, 200, and 400 freestyle). A trio of wins for Matteo Carnabuci of Poseidon (50 and 100 backstroke, 200 individual medley) and Luca Barraja of Tc Palermo 3 (50, 100, and 200 breaststroke), while Alessandro Varchi of Swim Power secured a double win (200 backstroke and 400 individual medley).

In the first year of the Boys category (class of 2012), three titles went to Gregorio Mancuso of Tc Palermo 3 (100, 200, and 400 freestyle), Daniele Cento of Swim Power Bagheria (50 and 100 backstroke, 200 individual medley), and Alessandro Caliri of Unime (50 and 100 butterfly, 50 freestyle). Carlo Buscarino of Idra (200 butterfly, 800, and 1500 freestyle) and Andrea Miccichè of Pol. Mimmo Ferrito (50, 100, and 200 breaststroke).

From Friday to Sunday next, it will be the turn of the other categories, taking place in Paternò. For this occasion, the regional committee has scheduled a last-minute trial reserved for athletes in the Boys category seeking qualification for the Criteria.
