Three new allocations, totaling 5 million and 100 thousand euros, will reshape the face of Donnalucata and Scicli.
The Program Agreement between FUA Ragusa and the Sicilian Region was signed yesterday in Palermo by the mayors of Ragusa, Modica, Scicli, Giarratana, Santa Croce Camerina, and Vittoria, along with the president of the Region, Renato Schifani.
Thanks to the Functional Urban Area, 50 interventions will be financed in the six associated municipalities, for a total amount of 52 million euros.
The administration led by Mayor Mario Marino has obtained three significant contributions.
The first, amounting to 300 thousand euros, will allow for the purchase of two zero-emission electric buses to enhance sustainable urban transport, along with the establishment of new charging stations for electric vehicles.
The second funding, of 2 million and 133 thousand euros, concerns the eastern seafront of Donnalucata and the parallel via Pirandello. The measure, called “Further interventions for strengthening urban mobility and related services”, includes the addition of a pedestrian and cycling path that will start from Marina di Ragusa, reach Playa Grande, and, crossing the western seafront, extend to lido Micenci. The upgrading of the terminal section of via Lido in Donnalucata is also planned.
The third allocation, the largest, is intended for the acquisition and redevelopment of the entire area of the Convent of Sant’Antonino. The project includes the creation of a large urban park in the heart of the city: in subsequent phases, a parking lot with several dozen parking spaces, a steel pedestrian bridge to connect the banks of the Santa Maria La Nova stream, and the securing of the former convent and the church of Sant’Antonino will be realized. This will create a green lung that will extend from the edge of via Colombo down to the cemetery of contrada Mendolilli.
The convent complex and the church, now a private ruin, will be restored as a public space with a cultural vocation, modeled after the Spasimo di Palermo or the church of San Giovanni alle Catacombe in Syracuse.
At the signing of the agreement, in addition to the mayor Mario Marino, the councilor Enzo Giannone was present. By law, the start of the works must take place in 2026.
