Scoglitti, 300 thousand euros for the fish market: Vittoria second in Sicily in the regional ranking
A significant achievement for the city of Vittoria and the seaside district of Scoglitti: the modernization and safety enhancement project for the site designated for the sale of fish, located within the fishing port of Scoglitti, has received a funding of 300 thousand euros, earning the municipality second place in the regional ranking among the proposals submitted throughout Sicily.
The resources have been allocated by the Regional Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Mediterranean Fisheries – Regional Department of Mediterranean Fisheries, as part of Action 3 of the Specific Objective 1.1 of the PN FEAMPA 2021/2027, a program aimed at strengthening the infrastructure of the fishing supply chain and promoting the sustainable development of coastal communities.
The intervention includes the overall redevelopment and compliance with safety regulations of the building where the local fish trading takes place daily: a symbolic place of the Scoglitti maritime economy and a reference point for sailors, operators, and citizens.
The works also aim to align the market with the necessary standards to obtain recognition at the European level, through the establishment of a daily health facility and full compliance with community requirements, thus restoring the structure to the qualification it held in the past.
At the same time, the project addresses one of the most pressing issues for those in the field, that of waste disposal, with the installation of an automated ecological island designed to ensure greater efficiency, order, and environmental sustainability in the port area.
Satisfaction has been expressed by the councilor for the Scoglitti district, Salvatore Avola: "The structure for the sale of fish represents a historic facility of our fishing community and an identity element for Scoglitti. After the interventions already carried out for small-scale fishing, today we begin to think big, finally giving the right prominence to a space that deserves attention and investment. This project enhances the work of fishermen and strengthens a tradition deeply rooted in our community."
On the same line, Mayor Francesco Aiello stated: "The second place in the regional ranking confirms the validity of the planning and the commitment of the Administration to seize strategic funding opportunities. Investing in the fish sales structure means concretely supporting the local economy, improving the working conditions of operators, and enhancing a historical resource of our city. We will continue to work to make Scoglitti increasingly competitive and attractive."
The Municipality will now initiate the subsequent operational phases to implement the interventions, confirming its attention to the fishing sector and a sustainable development vision for the coastal district.
