The silence that screams in the square: the deaf people of Agrigento raise their voices against indifference.

The deaf community of the province of Agrigento is taking to the streets. A sit-in in front of the Prefecture is scheduled for March 27, 2026 to denounce the serious distress in which the provincial section of the National Deaf Association finds itself, lacking an operational headquarters and essential services for users for over a year.

The organizers have requested to be received by the Prefect to urge an institutional intervention that can unlock a situation that, according to the committee, penalizes hundreds of people.

The Agrigento section, a historical reference for over 75 years, indeed does not have suitable premises or regular activities, despite, the promoters emphasize, the regional contributions allocated to the Regional Council ENS Sicily.

The request made to the Prefect is for a direct commitment towards the Regional Department of Family, so that the correct allocation of funds and their fair distribution at the provincial level can be verified. The goal is to ensure the functioning of the offices and the services essential to the deaf community of Agrigento.

“We trust in the sensitivity and attention of the Prefect — writes the organizing committee — so that legality, transparency, and above all dignity for the deaf citizens of the province can be restored.”
