Pozzallo marina, dredging blocked. Ammatuna bursts out: "Regional bureaucracy without decency"
After two to three years, a definitive answer is still awaited when the bridge in Genoa was rebuilt in a year.
The tourist port of Pozzallo
An environmental authorization procedure that lasts for years is not worthy of a civilized country.
On Monday, March 16, 2026, the Regional CTS, the Technical Specialist Commission for environmental authorizations, gave the green light to the measure for the dredging of the tourist port of Pozzallo.
During the week, the publication of the final Advisory Decree is expected.
The Port System Authority of Eastern Sicily has allocated 1.5 million euros for the excavation operations and the executing company has already been identified.
Nevertheless, the regional administrative machine, after a process lasting years for an authorization considered ordinary administration, has introduced an additional requirement: the environmental act still includes the last prescription for sediment monitoring, which is destined to waste more time.
The work, therefore, cannot begin for at least another twenty days, with the concrete risk of compromising the upcoming summer season.
While the Genoa bridge was rebuilt in a year, a simple dredging operation in Sicily takes years, with a waste of public money that is difficult to explain.
Among the imposed conditions is also the obligation to dispose of the sand in a landfill, with significant costs, when it would have been more logical and immediate to transport and deposit it along the eastern coastline of Pozzallo, continuing to Santa Maria del Focallo and Cirica.
With deep bitterness, one cannot help but note how the excessive slowness of the regional bureaucratic apparatus ends up fueling corrupt phenomena, such as those that emerged in recent months in other areas of Sicily.
