Ragusa Ibla, multi-story parking at the center of the discussion: "Project worth 13 million, but the process is still pending. Caruso demands clarity

During the meeting between the municipal administration and economic operators dedicated to outdoor seating in Ragusa Ibla, as reported by Confimprese Iblea and picked up by several local outlets, an element emerged that requires immediate clarification. In addition to the rules for commercial activities, the multi-story parking was discussed, considered a strategic intervention for the future of the neighborhood.

Councilor Rossana Caruso reports that, during the discussion, the Public Works Assessor, Gianni Giuffrida, provided updates on the project, mentioning a process still ongoing involving acquisition of opinions, definition of the economic-financial plan, and funding procurement.

“From these statements – explains Caruso – a new and significant fact emerges: the total cost of the project is indicated as approximately 13 million euros. A figure that had never been represented with this clarity in public debate before.”

According to the councilor, the main concern is the absence of tangible feedback: “There continues to be talk of opinions to be acquired, of resources to be found, of economic-financial balances to be built. But there is no definitive act, there is no certain coverage, there is no clear timeline. It is unacceptable that a project announced as strategic for the city remains stuck in a preliminary phase, lacking the decisive steps that would truly allow it to start.”

Caruso also recalls that, at the beginning of last December, it was communicated, including through a post from the mayor on social media, that the process was concluded, with opinions acquired and financial coverage defined. “Today – she states – we discover instead that the path is still ongoing. It is necessary to understand what has changed in these months and why this change has been kept silent. On a project of such importance for Ragusa, silence cannot prevail.”

The councilor reiterates the strategic value of the multi-story parking: “We are talking about a fundamental infrastructure for the future of Ibla, for its accessibility, for tourism, for the quality of life of residents and economic operators. It cannot be treated as a project perpetually in development, suspended between announcements and delays.”

For these reasons, he announces a formal initiative: “In the coming hours, I will present a council inquiry to ask the administration to clarify in a precise and detailed manner the status of the intervention, the resources actually available, and the expected timelines. Statements lacking concrete evidence have run their course. We need transparency, we need clarity, we need responsibility.”

He closes with a jab at the entity's long-term vision: “The administration claims a long-term perspective through the ‘Ragusa 2043’ project, designed to outline a twenty-year development strategy. But if this is the pace, rather than Ragusa 2043, we may have to update the calendar and talk directly about Ragusa 2063.”
