The Unitre delegation has returned to Modica after being on a visit to Palermo since Monday, March 16.

The trip began with a stop in Bagheria, among some famous historic residences: among these, Villa Cattolica, which houses the tomb of Renato Guttuso.

The itinerary concluded with an excursion to the Cathedral of Monreale.

At the start, there was an institutional moment at the Unitre headquarters in Bagheria, where the twinning agreement was signed with its counterpart in Modica, the city of the County.

Thanks to the preparation of the guides, the group was able to learn about, and for many deepen their knowledge of, the main treasures of the historic center of the Sicilian capital: the Palatine Chapel, the Palazzo dei Normanni, the Cathedral, the Martorana (Santa Maria dell’Ammiraglio), and the Church of Santa Caterina.

Along Via Vittorio Emanuele, starting from the Arco Nuovo next to the Palazzo dei Normanni, the participants admired the numerous historic buildings up to the Archbishop's Palace, where they met and greeted Archbishop Mons. Corrado Lorefice.

The route continued towards the monumental intersection of the “Quattro Canti”, then to Piazza Pretoria, with the “Fountain of Shame” at its center, and along Via Maqueda, a noble artery dotted with palaces, churches, and shops, up to the Teatro Massimo, which was the subject of a particularly in-depth visit.

Among the stops was also the ascent to Monte Pellegrino and a stop at the Sanctuary of Santa Rosalia.

On the last day, before returning, the group moved to Monreale, reaching the Benedictine Abbey of San Martino delle Scale, renowned for its artistic and spiritual heritage and for the ancient recipes kept by the monks, where they met Abbot Don Vittorio Giovanni Rizzone, who is of Modican origin.

In Monreale, finally, the visit to the Cathedral, famous for its architectural layout, the richness of its interiors, and the magnificence of the mosaics, followed by the adjacent Cloister.

The final assessment is more than positive: thanks to a favorable weather, the program was followed in every part, with full satisfaction of the participants.
