For over a week the square in front of the Vittoria train station has been completely dark. This has been reported by city councilor Monia Cannata, who last Tuesday informed the relevant assessor, requesting an immediate intervention to restore public lighting in a particularly sensitive area of the city.

According to Cannata, the issue is not just about the service disruption itself, but especially the danger that the darkness poses. In the square, in fact, there are still several potholes and two partially sunken manholes that remain unrepaired, located right at the entrance to the area. A condition that, in the evening hours, becomes a real risk for drivers and pedestrians.

No intervention,” the councilor laments, emphasizing how the situation has remained unchanged despite the formal report. Cannata also draws attention to the fact that this is one of the main entrances to the city, a place that should represent a decent calling card for residents and visitors.

The councilor points the finger at the city administration, accused of spending more time on social media communication than on managing daily issues: “Administrators, do you find the time to deal with your responsibilities or do you just keep making videos?”, she states in her remarks.

The incident reignites the issue of urban maintenance and the safety of public spaces, especially in strategic areas like the train station, a transit and access point to the city. It remains to be seen if and when the administration will intervene to resolve the problem and restore adequate lighting and safety conditions.
