Artificial Intelligence enters the ward: the OPI launches the challenge of digital healthcare
"The algorithm does not replace the nurse": the debate on the future of AI between ethics and care
Salvatore Occhipinti
Artificial Intelligence (AI) enters the ward, not to replace the human touch, but to enhance the effectiveness of evidence-based care. This is the central theme of the conference "Artificial Intelligence and Evidence-Based Medicine", which will take place next Tuesday at 9:00 AM, at the headquarters of the Order of Nursing Professions (OPI) in Agrigento, in the San Benedetto area.
A bridge between algorithms and care
The initiative, chaired by Salvatore Occhipinti and sponsored by the FNOPI (National Federation of Orders of Nursing Professions), aims to serve as a laboratory for reflection on how the digital revolution is rewriting the DNA of healthcare professions.
"The conference represents a moment of crucial insight for professionals in the field – says President Occhipinti –. We want to analyze the growing role of digital technologies in clinical and care processes, without forgetting ethics and the relationship with the patient".
The topics: from digital transition to the 'fragility' of the citizen
The program will not be limited to the technical aspects of AI, but will address critical points of modern healthcare:
New skills: what abilities are required today of a nurse in the data era?
Digital fragility: how to protect and guide citizens who struggle to interface with new technologies?
Care models: the use of AI to create personalized and predictive care pathways.
Distinguished speakers
The debate will feature prominent figures in the scientific and professional landscape: Dario Taborelli, physician, CEO of DatAimed and scientific director of the event, who will illustrate the integration between medicine and data analysis; Pietro Giurdanella, national councilor of FNOPI, who will provide the institutional perspective on the nursing profession in the European context; Giorgio Maritano, AI Engineer, tasked with explaining "under the hood" how algorithms can concretely support daily clinical practice.
The appointment marks a fundamental milestone for the Agrigento healthcare community, called to manage technological change to transform it into a health opportunity for the entire territory.
